Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional, for sweetness)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (for coating the beef)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (freshly ground, adjust to taste)
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

  1. Marinate the Beef
    In a bowl, toss sliced flank steak with soy sauce, cornstarch, and 1 tbsp vegetable oil. Let sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Sear the Beef
    Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add marinated beef in batches, searing quickly for 1–2 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Stir-Fry Veggies
    Add remaining oil to the wok. Stir-fry onions and bell peppers for 3–4 minutes until crisp-tender. Add garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Make the Sauce
    Return beef to the wok. Stir in oyster sauce, hoisin (if using), beef broth, and black pepper. Toss everything together and cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
  5. Finish & Serve
    Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
