Ingredients

  • 2 New York strip steaks (about 1 lb / 450g each)
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar or mirin
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • Optional garnish: sesame seeds, chopped green onions

Instructions

1️ Prepare the Teriyaki Marinade

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper.

2️ Marinate the Steaks

  • Place steaks in a shallow dish or ziplock bag.
  • Pour the marinade over the steaks and let them sit for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the fridge) for extra flavor.

3️ Preheat the Grill

  • Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

4️ Grill the Steaks

  • Remove steaks from marinade and pat lightly dry.
  • Grill for 4–6 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust time based on thickness and desired doneness).
  • Optional: Brush with leftover marinade during the last 2 minutes of grilling.

5️ Rest & Serve

  • Let steaks rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve alongside steamed rice, grilled vegetables, or a fresh salad.

Tips for Perfect Steak

  • Room temperature: Let steaks sit at room temp for 15–20 minutes before grilling for even cooking.
  • Don’t overcrowd the grill: Give each steak space to sear properly.
  • Marinade control: Avoid using all the marinade as sauce raw — simmer it briefly first if you want to serve it on top.
